Harrison and McQuienn, who play at Kyabram’s Valley View club, won the Victorian pairs match play championship at Rosebud two weeks ago and will now contest the national title at RACV Cape Schanck on December 6-7.
They are among the final four pairs in the national competition — with only Victoria, NSW, ACT and Queensland represented at the finals.
“There were eight teams that qualified, but only four are making the trip for the final,” Harrison said.
Harrison and McQuienn won a spot in the final 16 after six months of qualifying rounds, then won their way through four play-off matches.
Harrison has not played on the Mornington Peninsula course that will host the final, but McQuienn has one round under his belt.
They will play the national semi-final on the Tuesday and are aiming to qualify for the final on the Wednesday.
In the final knockout round the pair beat former North Melbourne footballer Troy Makepeace, and his brother, from Sale.
Makepeace, a 140-game player with the Kangaroos, was off 12 and his brother was off 20.
“We were one up on the last hole, and Troy Makepeace had a putt to force a play-off hole. He missed and that meant we qualified for the finals,” Harrison said.
During the finals rounds there are three major prizes on offer for anyone who can shoot a hole-in-one, at one of three par three holes. There is the choice of a Ford Mustang, Ford Ranger or $60,000 cash for a hole-in-one.
There will be three par three holes where you can win those prizes,’’ Harrison said.
Harrison plays off nine and McQuienn plays off eight, with the finals contested under 4BBB matchplay.
Harrison and McQuienn will travel to the Mornington Peninsula on Monday evening and will stay at the holiday home of McQuienn’s brother-in-law, 1990 Collingwood premiership player Mick Gayfer.
Gayfer has a holiday home 15 minutes away from the Cape Schanck course, at Dromana.
