After a cloud of confusion shrouded the Goulburn Valley League goal-kicking race, the winner has now been crowned.

A puzzling goal tally quandary involving Kyabram’s Anthony Depasquale and Seymour’s Riley Mason produced differing results as to who won, with Play HQ’s overall leaderboard originally showing Depasquale had taken out the title with 72 goals.
However, this was proved to be a miscalculation.
Instead, the top gong has gone to Mason after Premier Data, an external service that captures and analyses match vision from every game, revealed that Mason had, in fact, won the count with 72 goals to Depasquale’s 71.

Mason fired home eight majors in Seymour’s final game of the season, ending with a bang as the Lions trumped Mooroopna 20.11 (131) to 6.11 (47) at Kings Park.
It was the young star’s joint second-biggest bag of the season, aligning with his octuple against Benalla in round four, while Mason’s best day in front of the sticks arrived in round 14 when he kicked a perfect 10 against Tatura.
Mason was also a part of the Goulburn Valley League interleague side that saluted against country rival Ovens and Murray League in May, booting two majors during the game.
His 72-goal tally was by far the best output of the Calder Cannons graduate’s senior career, having kicked 28 and 39 for the Lions in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
And GVL fans, he’s not going anywhere yet.
While the electric forward notched the 50-game milestone for Seymour in 2024, he’ll look to creep closer to the ton next season after Seymour announced it had secured Mason’s services for 2025.
He’ll go toe-to-toe with his forward foe Depasquale once again, with Kyabram also confirming that the Bombers jet has signed on for another campaign in the red and black.
