After losing the toss and being asked to bowl first at Pyalong Recreation Reserve, Seymour looked to have made a hot start as Brodey Pointon removed opener Mitchell Ryan for one, however Daniel Sowden was brought to the crease and proved to be the glue in Pyalong’s innings.
Finishing unbeaten on 65, Sowden combined with each of Jamie Pryor (25), Jamie Biagioni (19) and Matthew Pratt (28 not out) to help the home side to a total of 4-184, a competitive figure that would take some chasing.
In its chance with the bat, Seymour looked to be headed for defeat early as it lost both Hayden Gawne and Brett Gordon to slump to 2-16, with the Pyalong attack up and about.
But Jason Brown and Lachlan Drummond ensured the visitors walked away with the points, combining for an unbeaten 172-run stand to claim victory for Seymour.
Each hitting 11 boundaries in their knocks, Brown top-scored with 86 not out, just eclipsing the 85 not out of Drummond, as Seymour moved to within three points of top spot on the ladder following Tallarook’s shock loss to Alexandra.
After bowling out the home side for just 125 at Leckie Park, Tallarook would have felt pretty good about its chances of victory given how dominant it had been with the bat in recent weeks.
However, Alexandra turned it on with the ball, bowling out the ladder-leader for just 85 and handing the Rooks their third loss of the season.
In the other A-grade clash, Yea proved too strong for Puckapunyal, claiming a 26-run victory.
In B-grade, Tallarook secured a mammoth 162-run victory over Seymour, Avenel continued its winning ways with a 10-wicket win over Pyalong and Yea forfeited its clash against Alexandra.
