The Redbacks, with Myles Murphy and Zavier Parsons at the wicket, needed 17 runs from the last over to reel in the 113-run total of their opponent. They scored 13 of those to finish just shy of victory.
Parsons hit a six off the last ball after Murphy had struck a boundary before being dismissed from the second last delivery of the match.
Parsons finished on 26 not out, while Cooper Ohlsen struck three boundaries in his 24 retired (from 15 deliveries) and Lacy Parsons and Mitch Melverton made 10 apiece.
Lenny Perrella and Zavier Parsons took the only two wickets to fall in the Shepparton Youth Club United innings.
· Kyabram Redbacks have a big chase ahead of them in the Cricket Shepparton under-14 competition after Nagambie scored 7-195 on day one of the two-day round six contest.
If not for Rhys Parsons the match could have been even further in Nagambie’s favour, his three-wicket five-over spell slowing the scoring rate marginally.
· A Kyle Pethebridge hat-trick and a punishing six-boundary 28-run innings from Tyler Nicholson guided the Redbacks’ under-12 B-grade team to victory against Shepparton Youth Club United last week.
Pethebridge took the three successive wickets in the 19th over and finished with 4-6 from, three overs.
Nicholson had support from Rhys McKiernan (19 retired) and Oliver Dervish (not out 15) as the Redbacks made a massive 209 runs from 20 overs.
McKiernan and Pethebridge then took four wickets each and Archie Williams three as the Redbacks skittled their opposition for 73. In support Hugo Hemphill and Nicholson both took two wickets.
· Tongala has fallen outside the top four teams in the under-13 competition after losing by eight runs to Leitchville-Gunbower last week.
The Blues have won two of their five games, but a Leitchville-Gunbower draw with top team Rochester has the western most member of the competition now sitting fourth.
Tongala bowled after winning the toss, two wickets in one over to Lucas Pyke allowing it to keep its opponent to 7-90 from 20 overs.
Pyke finished with 3-2 from three overs, while his twin brother Kane took 1-1 from two overs.
Leitchville-Gunbower was 1-59, but lost six wickets for 31 runs.
Kevin Maurizi’s great season continued when he hit a boundary and two sixes in his 14-ball score of 19, supported by a Lucas Pyke’s unbeaten 12 and five not out from Oliver Croft.
Tongala finished on 6-82 from its 20 overs.
· Charlie Pekin and Tayte Newman took five wickets between them in a six-over stint which had a major impact on Fire Brigade being able to dismiss Nondies-Cohuna in 31.3 overs for 75.
Seven Fire Brigade bowlers took wickets in the innings, Pekin taking 3-10 and Newman 2-11, both from three overs.
Five other bowlers took one wicket apiece as Fire Brigade looks set to remain unbeaten in the lead up to the December 7 game against ladder leader Moama.
· A 12-run win for Fire Brigade’s under-11 team was built on the back of four 20-run plus totals from its in-form quartet of Eli Coombs, Levi Cleveland, Oscar and Archie Andison.
Set 138 for victory, Fire Brigade scored 146 from its 20 overs, Cleveland and Coombs both scoring 21 from 13 deliveries, then Oscar Andison hit a six and two boundaries in his 22 retired and brother Archie was 15 not out at stumps.
· Stanhope’s under-11 unit had a thrilling win against Moama Mowers, scoring the 115 required for victory with two overs to spare.
Moama was sent into bat by Stanhope and with three wickets to Indianah Baumann and two to Chelsea Braithwaite finished on 114 after 20 overs.
Baumann bowled four overs for figures of 3-14 and Braithwaite three overs for her 2-17.
Lennon Hall then started the run chase with 21 runs from 15 deliveries, supported mid-innings by Chase Baumann (10 retired) and Finn Archard (11 retired) as Stanhope lost only four wickets in claiming its victory.
· Tongala’s first win of the season came after Jett Tucker managed to deliver a winning last over where Echuca White needed 10 runs for victory.
The three-run victory was built on the back of a 90 runs total for the Mini Blues, from their 20 overs, then Echuca White finished on 87 at the end of its over allocation, a late wicket to Tucker sealing the victory.
Tucker took 2-7 from two overs, while Tex Townsend and Jed Brennan also took two wickets.
Brennan was the best of the Tongala batters with 10 not out from 10 overs.
