Kyabram is poised to claim its biggest scalp for the season after its bowlers restricted Waaia to a gettable first innings score on the opening day of their Cricket Shepparton Haisman Shield round eight clash on Saturday.
Kyabram’s bowlers led by new ball bowlers Jackson and Charlie McLay had the Waaia batters struggling early in their innings after the home side won the toss and elected to bat in the two-day clash at Waaia.
Jordan Cleeland with 49 kept the runs ticking over for Waaia until the tailenders led by James Carpenter with an unbeaten 29 and Connor Brown (16) boosted the home team’s total to a modest 126.
Jackson McLay with 3-43 off 14 overs and Charlie McLay with 2-39 off 10 overs were the only multiple wicket-takers from the seven Kyabram bowlers used.
In reply Kyabram faced 29 overs and with skipper Kyle Mueller again leading from the front the visitor was 13 runs away from a first innings lead with six wickets in hand when stumps were drawn on Saturday night.
Kyle Mueller was unbeaten on 46 with two fours and two sixes and Ethan Hart was two not out with Kyabram’s score at 4-114.
· The opening day of the Kyabram versus Waaia B-grade clash was called off due to a wet Kyabram wicket on Saturday and will be played as a one-day game this Saturday.
· In E-grade Kyabram succumbed for 60 after its bowlers had restricted to Waaia to 115 off 33.1 overs.
Kyabram’s opening bowlers Anthony Evans and Riley Nicholson were lethal and economical early, each with three wickets.
Kyabram was bundled out in 26.2 overs with Patrick Parsons and Quinn Wickham, both with 12, the only Kyabram batters to make it to double figures.
