The Rams senior group reeled off a 62-point win against the ninth-placed Tongala.
Meanwhile, the Rams’ opponents this week, Barooga, are coming off a 21-point win against Rumbalara at home.
Coming into this one with some momentum, the Rams will try to stifle the Barooga Hawks in their first meeting of the season.
Rams coach Gary Parsons said ball movement was exceptional in the team’s win against Tongala, and would be instrumental again this week.
“It was a very good win, and it was probably the best we’ve moved the football all year,” Parsons said.
“The opposition in Tongala was a game behind on the ladder, so was a lower opposition, but it was great to see that ball movement.”
The Rams will continue to try and play that free-flowing gameplay by trusting their teammates, a game style which, if consistent, can challenge the competition’s best.
“We’ve probably been a bit defensive in our game plan early in the year, so we’re trying to share and care with the football and put a bit more speed in transition.
“The aim is also to be consistent with that ball movement and play style.
“I hope that it continues. When we play like that, it makes it hard for our opponents, and with our best, I think we can match it with anyone.”
Parsons said the team’s win on Saturday showcased the range of the Rams’ talent.
“It was a great mixture of senior experience and youth.
“Young Lachie Osborne played well, as did young Doug Billings from the under-17s, who took a few great marks and at 200cm could be a really special product.”
This week, the Rams will have a few key inclusions and omissions.
Regardless of who takes the field, they have shown a great depth of talent.
“We’re getting a few back, including John Anstee back from concussion. It will be a big in, to add to our backline.
“We are always going to have guys coming in and going out. Still, this year, we’ve really shown our depth through blokes like Ian Macdonald, Miller Fitzpatrick and Darcy McManus - three good players who have emerged this year.
“It’s good for their experience and will be great for the club down the track.”
Playing away at Barooga is another test for this Rams group, which they should pass with flying colours if they’re physically strong against their opposition.
“Barooga is a bit of a hard place to play, it’s a bit of a funny one.
“Their ground is quite compact with forward pockets pretty accessible from the centre of the ground, and they’ve got a real home ground advantage.
“We’ll want to bring that good, physical brand of footy.”
