CDHBU travelled to Culcairn to take on the Lions in their Round 2 clash where the seniors, reserves and under 14s footy, along with the B Grade, 17s, and 13s netball sides all grabbing their first wins of the season. Adding to their point tally from last round were the A Grade and 11s teams excitingly both getting their second wins.
Seniors score big win
The seniors had a solid week on the track and were in high spirits leading into the game against Culcairn.
Power welcomed two debutants to the side, Dean Waugh and Adam Romey, both getting over some preseason niggles.
The team challenged themselves to be better in a few key areas and it was pleasing to see a much-improved performance.
The ball use and cleanliness were clearly better, enabling the forwards to get plenty of looks throughout the contest.
Power dominated the clearances (56 - 17) and the scoring rate from inside fifties, a key performance indicator, was much improved from the previous week.
Bevo was on fire, and the big man finished with 15. Yes, you read that right.
Andison was also exceptional, kicking nine goals.
Jimmy Hanrahan, Jon Ristrom, Cal Butler, Mick Collins and Ethan Hanrahan were the other standout performers, but there were many others throughout the game.
Dean Waugh was cool under pressure, his decision making and execution was spot on.
All in all, a solid team effort and pleasing to see improvement from Round 1.
The team have a week off for Easter and then back into it against the Billabong Crows at home.

A hard fought win over Culcairn in the heat with big froffies leading the way in the ruck with Jake Coats kicking four majors playing a huge role in the win.
He was supported by big Jacko McCartney and Choc McGill slotting two in an impressive first game of the year.
Finchy Talbot led the way down back with excellent support from Collier, Barber and Baker, with Barber taking some crucial marks and timely spoils to negate the Culcairn momentum.
Doc also played a vital role in the victory with his cool head and decision making being a highlight, drifting through the midfield and down back directing traffic.
Josh Williams also continues his early season form with another solid performance through the middle, the kid is as tough as nails.
Thanks must go to the thirds boys in Riley and Blake Collins, stepping up after playing a full game earlier in the day, a super effort considering the heat.

Coming off a disappointing loss last week, it was the same story against Culcairn for the first quarter not troubling the scoreboard and letting the Lions get off to a two-goal lead at quarter time.
Rawson Pepper and Noah Cracknell in for his first run, were giving their all but the entire team needed to lift.
In the second quarter the team did just that, winning the middle and away they went.
Cal Corcoran was moved forward and proved the difference to get back in the contest with a ripping opportunistic goal to get the ball rolling.
Power went on to show their stuff over the next half dominating all over the ground with everyone getting on board to bring home a five goal win in a great team effort. Some standouts were; Rawson Pepper who was very solid again; Noah Cracknell did a fantastic job across half forward and Oscar Amor was a fortress down back.
Tyson Johnston, Cooper Gerhard and Darcy Upton all tried hard through the middle and Cal Corcoran changed the dynamic of the game with some smart forward football.
A good confidence builder for the boys and much deserved.

The team commenced at 9am on Saturday on a modified ground with great number for CDHBU turning up.
Thanks again to all the parents who ensured their children arrived early for the game.
Due to the smaller playing area, the match was somewhat congested at times, which did not ideally suit our style of play; however, the team quickly adapted to the conditions.
The scoreboard remained close throughout much of the game and Power had opportunities to win but just couldn’t convert with Culcairn narrowly securing victory.
Jaxson had a great run for his first game getting in an under to get the ball. Ollie was everywhere on the outside.
Hugh and Oscar were tough around the ball both taking turns to try to tag one of their big onballers. Will and Charlie ran all day. Thanks again to the players that swapped jerseys to support Culcairn.
Please note that there will be no training this week as the team has a break for easter long weekend.

Thankyou to the girls who filled in on such a hot day. Fitness let the team down today and didn’t work very well as a team. Let’s all get to training so we can improve together. Congratulations to Emily on her netball debut. She smashed it.

After the first game last week the girls started to learn the positions, the defence worked hard to turn the ball over.
Culcairn’s defenders were strong and kept shooters covered. Lots to work on at training but the team is starting to build.
