In a D-grade match between Murchison and Northerners, the former was steamrolled for six runs in six — and a bit — overs of absolute chaos on Saturday.
Northerners veteran Tim Brett was pure caviar with the ball in hand, finishing with absurd figures of 8-0 off 3.1 overs.
It included a four-wicket maiden and a three-wicket maiden — but remarkably, no hat-trick.
Murchison’s Caleb Turvey top scored with five runs, while eight other Hoppers were dismissed for ducks (three golden).
On the chase, Northerners finished the game in four balls with Lloyd Akers slashing two boundaries to send the Jets back to Tallygaroopna in record time.
Praise has to be given to Murchison despite the rough nature of defeat, with the side elevated up a division after starting the season in E-grade.
However, the Hoppers were no match for Brett - and they’re not the only opposition the gun Northerner has put a hex on in recent years, either.
A former A-grade player who has notched nearly 300 games for Northerners throughout his career, Brett’s previous best figures came during B-grade match against Waaia during the 2019-20 season.
He finished with 7-26 that day, and while a seven-wicket haul would usually take the cake when it comes to career bests, Brett’s spellbinding display at the weekend will not be forgotten among local cricketing circles for some time.
