But within 24 hours he was the recipient of Cricket Shepparton’s highest individual award, the Lightfoot Medal, and a swag of other accolades.
And one of the first to congratulate Mueller was Ben Reece, the English all-rounder who won the Lightfoot Medal playing with Kyabram in the 2015-16 season.
Mueller made a clean sweep of the batting awards at Monday’s Cricket Shepparton awards night.
In the Lightfoot Medal he received 20 votes to beat Nagambie’s Mark Nolan with 16 and Tatura’s Blake Amstrong with 15 and Nagambie’s Mitch Winter-Irving on 14.
Mueller’s 762 runs for the season, which included four centuries, at the better than Bradman-average of 108 also scooped him several other awards.
He won the runs aggregate and batting average and was named in the competition’s Team Of The Year.
Mueller experienced a frustrating day on Sunday when rain washed away Kyabram’s chances of trying to win successive Haisman shields.
He said in an interview after being announced the Lightfoot medallist he played cricket ‘‘to have fun with his mates’’ and wished all grand final sides the best for this weekend’s season deciders.
Two other Kyabram players Paul Wickham (B-grade) and Ross Brown (E-grade) were included in the Team of the Year in their grades.
