After fighting their way through qualifying rounds, which included a number of 3/2 victories, Mia and Martin prevailed over Ben Dundee and Dave Arazuhaldzic in the final and deciding frame of the competition.
Singles results were split at 2 all with the doubles frame to be contested in what was a very appropriate representation of the entire tournament.
The ultimate match was concluded with a stunning around the table pink ball pot from Martin to seal the title.
Congratulations to Ben and Dave on making the final and engaging in such a close finish, and to Mia and Martin on holding their nerve and making many pressure filled shots when they counted most.
Monday, June 24’s contest was taken out by Deb Harbrow who played her way through a number of close preliminary rounds to take the night’s major prize over Tony Cincotta.
Deb’ is playing through injury so this victory was very well deserved, and Tony is getting closer to his normal form after experiencing fluctuating fortunes in recent times.
Wednesday evening social events were won by Kevin Young over Jason Bassett on June 19 and Mia again against Marg Conomy (who defeated her husband Ric in qualifying rounds) on June 26.
The club are currently scanning club records to determine if this was the first all-female final in the club’s history but regardless of that outcome, it speaks volumes about the excellent performances of Mia and Marg on the night.
