Kyabram-based star Charlie Boswood, who represented the Bombers alongside the esteemed Boswood family in the last Goulburn Valley Playing Area season, has received the nod to join Victoria’s under-18 boys’ side for the Australian Championships from October 8-11.
It wasn’t long ago at all that Boswood had qualified for two prestigious berths in quick succession.
Having contested the 2024 Junior Golden Nugget event at Club Tweed at the end of July, where he finished third in his group of five, Boswood took part in a victorious State Tri-Series against New South Wales and Queensland at the same venue just days later.
Already surely familiar with the Club Tweed facilities by now, he’ll be heading for the NSW-Queensland border all over again as part of a five-person squad that also includes regular features Jacob Brighton of Moama and Koby Cromie of Yarrawonga.
As a banner year continues for Boswood, father Darren Boswood says the youngster has been in red-hot form in the time since pennant season ended.
“He’s had a pretty good last couple of years and had a really good showing up at the Tri-Series,” Darren Boswood said.
“He bowled really well up there and helped the Vic boys deliver the goods and win all their Test matches to become the best team, although NSW won the event overall.
“They picked the national sides from the eight boys and girls who represented at the Tri-Series to compete at the national level.
“There’s no such thing as a guarantee, but he performed well enough that he was set up to be in the right position at the right time.”
The calendar remains ever-full as well, with Boswood set to take on the Junior Diamond Jack singles tournament at Sunbury in early September before nationals begin.
Darren, simply put, is thrilled with what the district kids are achieving.
“The Diamond Jack is fairly prestigious with kids coming from all over Australia to play it, before Henry and Charlie both represent the state at School Sports Victoria,” Darren Boswood said.
“I’m super proud of the whole group. They’re a bloody good bunch of kids and the selectors had a very hard job this year.
“I think we’re poised in a very good position to give (nationals) a really strong run.
“Kids like Henry and Charlie as well as Josh Cartwright, they make their own luck and they’re being well-rewarded.”
