After an even first term Stanhope took control through the efforts of new recruit Luke Semmel, ruckman Dan Flynn, Ryan Semmel, Sam Woodward and Chris Gleeson.
Luke Semmel and Gleeson were able to hurt the Towners on the scoreboard with 10 goals between them.
Woodward kept dangerous forward Jack Exell goalless on the day.
The Lions also got good games out of Jye Adamson and Nathan O’Reilly but Stanhope coach Mark Patten said the most pleasing aspect of his team’s effort was that there was no passengers and every player had some influence in pulling off the solid win.
• Murchison-Toolamba, as expected, bounced back for a big over battler Undera.
The combine was in control for most the game in sweeping to a 107-point triumph.
Kallyun Sanders and Andrew and Aidan Lloyd were in the thick of it for the winners while Tom Kerrins, James Milne and Brodie Sanders also had good games.
Club stalwart Jack Hajro worked tirelessly for Undera with support from Dylan Moncur, Russell Sheriff, Tristan Castle, Nathan Frizzell and Shaun Standley.
• Nagambie made it two wins in a row and sounded a warning in the process that its season is back on track with a 35-point win over the inconsistent Dookie United.
The Laverie boys — Blake with four goals and Trent — were prominent for the Lakers, who also had other good players in Jonno Moore, Tyrone Muir and Mark Nolan.
Bill O’Brien and Jarryd Shepperd also had good games for the winners while for Dookie Jarrad Newman, Kane Thompson and Henry Cook tried hard to inspire their teammates.
• Shepparton East blew Tallygaroopna away in Sunday’s game at Shepparton’s Central Park.
An 18-goal first-half blitz paved the way for a thumping 185-point win.
Adam Fichera, Tyler Pedretti, Tom Campbell were active in the forward line while Ryan Pfieffer, Tom McCluskey, Angus Sutherland and Matt Rendina were up and about for East, which with Avenel remain the only unbeaten teams in the competition.
Zac Brett, Jarryd and Jason Byrne and Dylan Kerr flew the flag for Tally, which managed only three goals for the game and was kept goalless in two quarters.
• In the second half of the split round this Saturday Lancaster confronts the unbeaten Avenel at Avenel in the match of the round, Merrigum hosts Girgarre while Rushworth will be looking to post its first win for the season when it tackles Longwood at Longwood.
