The Roos have lured another Old Scotch star in Jack Bull to their ranks and he’ll make his debut against unbeaten ladder-leader Avenel at Avenel when the season resumes following the COVID-19 lockdown.
Girgarre coach Billy Barnes said Bull was joining the Roos with glowing raps from his former Old Scotch teammates Lachy Hill, Sam Neil and Jordan Clarke who have joined the club this season.
‘‘They have a massive rap on him (Bull) so we are looking forward to seeing him play and welcoming him to the club,’’ said Barnes.
Bull is reported to be an experienced, tough and skilful midfielder and ball magnet so will provide the Roos, who have had a rotten run with injuries this season, a big boost as it mounts its bid to make a run to the finals.
A loss to Avenel could see the ’Roos fall off finals pace by two games with nine rounds remaining.
●Fourth-placed Merrigum faces a tough test, tackling a rebounding Nagambie at Nagambie.
Merrigum will need its forward line - headed by Josh Smith and Daniel Dryden - firing to be a chance to topple the Lakers who will be keen to start consolidating its spot in the six.
Ethan McLaren, Rhys Shannon and Jacob Chessels are playing well but the Bulldogs will need all hands on deck to have a chance to topple the home side which has been boosted by the inclusion of former Tatura coach Jamason Daniels.
Daniels was Nagambie's best player when making his debut against Lancaster before the COVID-19 lockdown.
Merrigum will have to find a way to shut down the potentially potent Nagambie attack headed by Ben Hutton.
●Lancaster is set to continue its unbeaten run when it clashes with neighbour Undera at Undera on Saturday.
The Wombats took down reigning premier Nagambie in their last appearance on May 22 and are playing with plenty of confidence.
Onballers and midfielders in Tom Davies, Zac Cerrone, Nic Ryan Coby O’Neill and James Ross should ensure the Wombat forwards headed by Billy Ryan will get the opportunities to kick a healthy score against Undera which has battled this season.
●Finals aspirants Stanhope and Dookie United clash at Stanhope in a vital game.
Dookie United will slip a game off finals pace if beaten while a win will give the Lions some temporary breathing space in the top six.
Stanhope is hard to toss on its home ground and with its midfield and onballers led by the in-form Nathan O’Reilly, Jye Patten, Mitch O’Dwyer and Jack Young.
With those players firing it should ensure the Lions’ forwards, led by recruit Jye Adamson, Dan Flynn, Luke Mann and Matt Gill, will get the chances to kick a winning score.
●In the other games Rushworth will chalk up its third win for the season when it hosts Longwood, Violet Town should have the better of Shepparton East while Murchison-Toolamba should hold down third spot on the ladder with a big win over Tallygaroopna.
Saturday’s games: Undera v Lancaster, Murchison-Toolamba v Tallygaroopna, Violet Town v Shepparton East, Avenel v Girgarre, Nagambie v Merrigum, Stanhope v Dookie United, Rushworth v Longwood.
