Family is a big part of the Girgarre Football Netball Club and all three of the Kangaroos Kyabram District League grand final netball sides had a number of connections to the past or present.

There was Gemma Tomasini in the 13 & Under premiership team, which claimed its second successive title. She is the daughter of 250-gamer Simon and granddaughter of Phil, a two time premiership player with the club.
It took Phil a little longer to win his two premierships, his grand daughter has done it before she has finished high school.
Cassidy Fletcher was a member of the same team and not long after she had secured a premiership medallion her mother Stacey was coaching the Kangaroos C Reserve team in the grand final on the adjacent court.
Unfortunately Stacey, who is a multiple best and fairest winner for the club at the top level, couldn’t repeat the performance of her daughter.
Co-coaches of that 13 & Under team were Bernadette Woodcock and Rachele Camin, whose daughters Daisy and Lily were also part of the back to back premiership winners.
– After losing the qualifying final to Tallygaroopna a fortnight ago the scene was set for a blockbuster 13 & Under netball grand final, Tallygaroopna leading by two goals at half time before the Kangaroos tied the game at the final break.
Ruby McMeekan and Lily Camin came into their own in the final term, lifting the defensive intensity and watching on from the other end of the court as Indi Dove shot five final quarter goals and the team won by three - 25-22.
McMeekan was named best on court in the win and captain Cassidy Fletcher was her able goaling assistant.
All nine players were used in the victory, Aleyah Morton working with Morgan Parsons, Jorja Saunders, Tomasini and Woodcock in the mid-court.
– Eight final quarter goals from champion Girgarre goaler, and premiership captain, Jacqui Gahan secured the Kangaroos an historic A-grade premiership.
It was the club’s first grand final win at the top level, leaving season long ladder-leader Lancaster to lament late season injuries in an outstanding return to prominence in the competition.
Girgarre won the match by three after breaking clear of the Wombats with a 14-10 second term after the teams were all square at quarter time.
Chicquita Vick, alongside Gahan the most outstanding goaler in the competition, took control of the game in the third quarter when it looked like the Wombats were on track for a win.
She shot 12 goals (32 for the game) as Lancaster took a two goal lead into the final term on the back of a 13-7 quarter.
Girgarre’s defensive unit of Abigail Sergienko, Allana Adams and Libby Pangrazio responded by restricting Lancaster to six final term goals and it was a 43-40 win for the Kangaroos.
Holly Nelson again shared the pivot role with 48-year-old Sheree Starling as, for the first time this season, Girgarre used only eight players on its roster.
Kim Hanratty shot 15 goals in the win to complement the 28 goal effort of Gahan.
– Three tight quarters of the C Reserve match saw Girgarre just four goals behind Tallygaroopna at the final break.
They trailed by three at quarter time, but by half time had closed the margin to one. A 26-16 final half saw Tally streak clear for a 48-37 victory.
Girgarre used all 12 of its squad in the match, Chloe Graham and Tatiana Taylor working tirelessly in defence and Guilia Pulsoni working with Caitlin Campbell in goals.
