Norris was umpiring his first senior football grand final on Saturday at Mooroopna and the assignment couldn’t have been much tougher — much of the game played in driving rain.
He is not new to the spotlight, having been school captain at Kyabram P-12 College last year.
Norris umpired the Lancaster and Murchison-Toolamba match with Simon O’Shea, originally from Shepparton but who has recently moved to Kyabram.
Moore will this weekend umpire his 12th straight Goulburn Valley league final, having earlier this year umpired his 400th senior game.
Moore is Director of Umpiring for AFL Goulburn Murray and will umpire the GVL grand final with James Meek and Steve Williams, from Benalla.
Moore is one of the most decorated umpires in the region, having twice won the Ian Coates award (in 2010 and 2014) as the best field umpires and having earned life membership of the GVFUA in 2019.
He will umpire the GVL grand final with two Kyabram boundary umpires, Will Mitchell and Adam Napier (son of Kyabram’s Russell and Louise).
All three were umpiring the GVL preliminary final at Deakin Reserve on Sunday.
James Meek is the son of former Kyabram district league premiership coach Darren Meek — senior field coach for the Goulburn Valley’s umpiring association.
Kyabram pair Drew Pettifer and Simon Walsh were in charge of the weekend’s senior Murray league grand final between Cobram and Mulwala.
