Sporting clubs across the Goulburn Valley are set to share in a pool of $66,000 in grant funding, put forward as a boost for volunteers.
With an emphasis on club contributors during Volunteer Week, the Federal Government’s Volunteer Grants program is delivering cash handouts of between $1000 and $5000 to help boost volunteer numbers and lift participation.
“I was very pleased to support the grants to these organisations,” Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell said, announcing the grants.
“While the grants are small, the impact is much bigger, and comes at a good time for organisations that are rebuilding their volunteer base following the pandemic.
“During the last few years sporting clubs and community organisations have suffered a lot of disruption and this funding will help to rebuild, reconnect and provide support.”
Goulburn Valley League clubs Shepparton, Shepparton United, Echuca and Rochester each pocketed $2750 through the initiative, while Shepparton Cycling Club scored an identical amount.
Greater Shepparton Basketball Association and Katandra West Tennis Club were awarded $3200 apiece and Katandra Football Netball Club netted $2800.
A total of $2000 was handed to Katandra West Bowling Club, while Kyabram Valley View Golf and Bowls Club snared $4000.
Kialla Golf Club was the recipient of a $1557 grant.
