After the previous weekend’s washout, bowling greens across the Goulburn Valley Playing Area fired back to life in a big way on Saturday.

Though Friday night’s storms threatened a repeat of the scuppered round seven, greenkeepers had the rinks manicured and ready to roll for a cracker round eight that featured a first versus second showdown in division one.
Tallygaroopna arrived on Shepparton Golf’s deck and, surprise, the Redlegs had nothing other than maximum points at the front of mind.
The Golfers managed to squeeze out a four-shot win in the first rink, but that was as close as they came to touching the untouchable as Tallygaroopna took each of the following three rinks by a differential of 10 or more shots.
When the dust settled, Tallygaroopna boasted a 14-85 to 4-74 result to push its lead at the ladder’s head out to 25 points, now giving Shepparton Park a sniff of second.
Park lies one point adrift of Golf after whipping Euroa 18-89 to 0-67 as Paul Nichols and Ray Hill skipped the home side to seven-shot advantages in their respective rinks.
It is a welcomed burst of confidence for Park and it’s going to need it.
The Kialla dwellers gear up for a bout against Tallygaroopna this weekend, while Euroa, now languishing at the bottom of the table, lines up against a Kyabram side that recorded a much-needed win at the weekend.
Hosting Mooroopna, the Bombers were pushed all the way by Martin Fong’s Cats, but Mal Williams’ 15-shot ascendancy in the second set of ends proved all the difference during the 12-79 to 6-72 result.
It wasn’t the only crucial performance by a finals candidate, either.
Tatura-Hill Top has been hot and cold at times this season, but there was no dust on the Bulldogs’ bowls up against a plucky East Shepparton contingent on Saturday.
The combine may have split the rinks 2-2, but with a losing margin of one shot for each, Tatura-Hill Top eventually flexed its muscle to round out the contest 14-86 to 4-65.
Jarryd Tinning’s four provided the fireworks, scoring a 28-10 victory over Chris Johnson and co to assist the Bulldogs in shoring up fourth position on the ladder with six regular season games remaining on the calendar.
