Resuming its first innigs at 4-62 in pursuit of reigning premier Echuca’s first innings total of 117, Tongala’s last two batters Luke Smith and Lachlan Caldwell edged Tongala from 9-98 to 114 before Smith fell for 12 and the visitor fell four runs short of victory .
Experienced Adam Nunn and Darin Ohlsen added only four runs for Tongala on the resumption of play on Saturday after Matt Ohlsen had top scored the previous week with 25.
Nunn fell for 13 and Darin Ohlsen 20, but a patient 14 from Steve Townsend off 72 deliveries kept Tongala in the game before Smith and Caldwell just missed on delivering the team’s first win for the season.
· Echuca South resuming at 1-36 chasing Bamawm-Lockington United’s disappointing 136 replied with an impressive 5-244 with Asantha Singappuli posting a century and Rathika Rajakumara a half-century.
Singappuli’s aggressive ton came off 183 balls with seven fours and four sixes, while Rajakumara’s half-century contained seven fours and was achieved off 44 deliveries.
In its second innings BLU was 5-72 when stumps were drawn.
· Chasing Nondies Cohuna’s moderate 79 Leitchville-Gunbower posted 8-218 declared in reply with Billy Hawken going on to make 81, Josh Hawken 39 and Liam Keath 29 not out before the visitor declared.
Nondies Cohuna reached 4-97 in its second innings to avoid a maximum points loss.
Xavier Wishart with an unbeaten 26, 24 from skipper Will O’Shea and 23 from opener Angus Donat thwarted LG’s ambitions of a maximum points win.
· Kyabram Fire Brigade, coming off the bye, meets BLU in a one-dayer at Bamawm this Saturday and needs a win to keep among the competition pacesetters.
