Flags to be decided at HDFNL grand finals

Strauch Reserve in Huntly will this Saturday play host to the biggest day on the Heathcote District Football Netball League calendar, with champions of football and netball to be decided at the grand finals.

After three losses to North Bendigo throughout the season, Leitchville-Gunbower’s senior football side finally overcame the Bulldogs in last week’s preliminary final to punch its ticket to the big stage against White Hills.

The Demons are another side the Bombers have been unable to topple so far this year, although, as they did over the four-game series against North Bendigo, L-G showed a marked improvement between the sides’ two meetings in 2024.

Round seven saw White Hills come out on top by 55 points, a low point for the Bombers scoring contingent who kicked a wayward 2.11 (23) in the game.

Leitchville-Gunbower was much improved in the sides’ round 16 match-up, the Demons coming out on top by just one goal, 9.19 (73) to 10.7 (67).

Lower grades

In B-grade netball, the Bombers are set for a battle with home side Huntly.

L-G finished the regular season as the minor premier and prevailed over the Hawks in the semi-final two weeks ago.

Huntly handed the Bombers their only loss of the year in round 17.

In under-18s football, Lockington-Bamawm United will feature on the final day, taking on White Hills.

The Demons will go in favourites, having finished on top of the ladder and secured a big 7.8 (50) to 1.2 (8) win over the Cats in the qualifying final.

LBU is the only side to defeat White Hills in the competition this season, prevailing by four points in round 10.

The grand final action will kick off at 8.30am with the under-13 netball clash between L-G and LBU.

The league’s top two look to be evenly matched with both team’s only regular season loss coming against the other.

The Bombers got the better of the Cats in the qualifying final to reach the final day well-rested.
