The man who owns that marvellous piece of facial hair? Australian cricket legend Merv Hughes.
Hughes played 53 Test matches for Australia during an illustrious career and will be at Karramomus for ‘’An evening with Merv’’ on Saturday, March 4.
The night will include food and drink, with Hughes sharing stories from his phenomenal playing career.
There will also be an auction on the night to help raise money for the club.
“Merv has put his time in to come down and see us and spend a bit of time talking about his career,” Karramomus president Nathan Delahey.
“Brad Smith, a local bloke, his kids play in our junior sides, and they are reasonably good mates, so he was able to have a chat with him and make it happen.
“I’ve never been to any of his shows before. He would be a good bloke to have a can with.
“He is doing what he can to help us out, which is great. Hopefully we can sell a majority of those tickets.”
Hughes, who was born at Euroa, made his Australian debut against India in 1985, with the fast bowler going on to take 212 Test wickets.
He claimed a memorable hat-trick against the West Indies at the WACA, famous for being over two separate innings.
His first two wickets closed out the Windies’ first innings and then, more than a day later, he took wicket number three with the first ball of the second innings.
The paceman was one of the stars of the 1993 Ashes in England, taking 31 wickets as the Aussies won the six-match series 4-1.
He was handy with the bat too, making more than 1000 Test and 2649 First Class runs during his career.
The event will be held at the Karramomus club rooms at Vibert Reserve at 7pm.
Tickets are available for $150 via pre-purchase only, with capacity limited to 80 people.
The tickets include finger food, beer and wine for three hours.
