No doubt, the agony of last season’s grand final loss to Mulwala weighs heavy on The Road’s mind.
But after Saturday’s barnstorming display, Congupna is only one stop off putting it all to bed once and for all.
The Road hit the front just 25 seconds into the match at Rumbalara Recreation Reserve and Finley’s reply came five minutes later - but from then on, it was one-way traffic for The Road.
Congupna added four more majors before quarter time to earn a 33-9 stronghold on the match, and though Finley fired back with three goals in the second term, the deficit stood at 26 points heading into the sheds for the main break.
Four goals apiece in the third quarter kept Congupna’s lead intact, and The Road was able to replicate its ruthless opening act during the last 25 minutes to walk off the park comfortable winners.
Squire’s four-goal haul had him named as the victor’s best while Jack Norman and James Boyer had great days out.
For Finley, Tom Lang (four goals) did the bulk of the Cats’ damage.
Following the weekend’s defeat, Jordan Taylor’s side will now meet Moama after the Magpies prevailed in Sunday’s second semi final.
Moama rallied after trailing at quarter time against Deniliquin Rams to eventually clinch a 10.8 (68) to 8.6 (54) victory.
