Young Kyabram Fire Brigade batting talents Bohden Learmonth and Miller Griffiths led a scoring spree on the Nondies Cohuna bowlers on the first day of their Goulburn Murray Cricket John McMahon Shield clash at Kyabram’s Northern Oval last Saturday.
Learmonth posted his first century in this competition with an unbeaten 106 with nine fours and four sixes off 125 deliveries, while Griffiths made 89 off 143 balls with 11 boundaries and one six — his highest A-grade score — as the Brigade built an impressive score of 4-287 declared off 69 overs to remain in the thick of the fight to play finals.
The Flames’ score received a late boost from Kaine Herbert (28) after openers Brett Andison (34) and Griffiths had shared a big stand after the home side had lost the toss and was sent into bat.
The Flames opening bowlers Rob Salter and Jackson Barnett got eight overs in before stumps were pulled and had the visitors reeling at 3-10 and ready to press for a maximum points win this Saturday.
· Rochester’s batters were also in the groove against Echuca South on Saturday, posting an impressive 281 runs with Dylan Cuttriss and Oliver Williams showing the way at Windridge Oval Rochester.
Veteran Cuttriss showed he can still rise to the occasion with the bat with a top score of 85 off 107 deliveries which included nine fours, while Williams contributed a stubborn 55 from 186 deliveries with four boundaries.
· Moama’s batters also had a day out, assembling an impressive score of 9-295 against Bamawm-Lockington United.
Anthony McMahon with 78 off 125 deliveries with six fours and one six and Matt Saunders with 57 with seven boundaries and one six led the way in putting a handy score of 9-295 on the board in the game at Moama.
· The exception to the day of healthy scores was Leitchville-Gunbower, bowled out for 60 by ladder leader and reigning premier Echuca at Victoria Park, Echuca.
Echuca’s new ball bowler Kade Edwards had the LG batters on the back foot from the start of their innings with a lethal spell of nine overs which produced an innings-shattering 5-9 with three maidens.
He was well supported by Charlie Hinks with 2-13 off eight overs and Ben Hansen 2-7 off six overs.
In reply Echuca had seized first innings premiership points, reaching 3-162 by stumps and set to press for a maximum points win this Saturday.
Echuca opener Brendan Moyle continued his good recent form to top score with 59 with nine boundaries, while classy Kobyn James contributed an unbeaten 74 which included 10 boundaries and a six.
