The previous week Thomson drove the promising trotter he trains, Prettyboy Harry, to an impressive win at Yarra Valley.
On Thursday night of last week at Kilmore Thomson brought Country Rockstar with a well timed run to chalk up the pacer’s fourth win in 20 starts at the nice odds of 10/1.
Thomson said Prettyboy Harry, who also raced at Kilmore, but broke stride in a winning position, still had a few faults to iron out, but was a talented trotter.
Country Rockstar’s win was a real family affair as the four-year-old, who is by the Rocknroll Hanover stallion Yankee Rockstar, was bred and is owned by his parents, Russell and Pauline.
Thomson has a busy day working a full time job as well as preparing a current team of nine.
‘‘I’m lucky I’ve got my wife (Debbie) and two daughters Emma, 11, and Katie, 9, to help me, otherwise I couldn’t do it.’’
Thomson also made a special mention of Addie Duryea who also helps prepare his team at his Dunbar Rd home base.
· Drive of the night at last week’s Shepparton meeting would have to go to James Herbertson for his win on the Kyabram-trained pacer Eye See Philtra.
The four-year-old son of Hes Watching was locked away three back on the pegs, but Herbertson was able to squeeze him into a one-out position turning for home before switching four wide in the home straight and mowing down his rivals in the concluding stages.
Eye See Philtra is trained by Mick Blackmore who has produced the pacer only four times for two wins, both on the Shepparton track.
