Fire Brigade sent Katamatite in to bat after winning the toss and it wasn’t until the seventh over, with 71 runs on the board, that the first wicket fell.
The next four wickets fell for 28 runs as the scoring rate slowed significantly thanks to four wickets from Phoebe Perrella and Jessie McDonald.
They took two wickets apiece and had support from Sophie McDonald and Zenah Moulsdale as Katty Tigers finished with 6-107 after 20 overs.
Penny Mason set an early tone for Fire Brigade, scoring 15 from 17 delivieries before Lexie Cottrell arrived and struck three boundaries in her 19-ball score of 18.
Sienna Brennan and Mackenzie Donaldson saw the team through to the grand final victory with an unbroken final-wicket partnership as Fire brigade finished on 7-109 with four balls remaining.
· An unbeaten run-a-ball 77 from Kyabram Fire Brigade opening batter Billy Isaac was not enough to secure the Goulburn Murray Cricket under-13 premiership for his team.
After winning the toss Rochester elected to bat at Moama’s Brick Alley oval and had 70 runs on the board in the eighth over.
It finished with a massive 7-222 from 32 overs, which could have been even better if not for a quadrella of run outs.
Top order batters Makore Dickinson (50 not out off 35 deliveries), Asher Rasmussen (34 off 31) and Judd Cuttriss (not out 27 from 30 deliveries) played a part in the total.
Midway through the innings the Fire Brigade team responded and took three wickets for seven runs.
It was too little, too late, however, and aside from Aidan Greiner’s 2-24 (from four overs) only Max Gould took a Rochester wicket.
With 41 sundries it was an unusually off the boil Fire Brigade unit that was then faced with chasing down the huge total (requiring a smidge less than seven runs an over).
Isaac was outstanding, smashing 12 boundaries in his 73 delivery innings, including hitting the opening ball of the innings to the boundary.
He retired in the ninth over, but returned with his team 8-84 in the 19th over.
At 2-35 in the eighth over Fire Brigade was not without a chance, but the next three wickets fell before the score had reached 70.
Isaac and Aiden Greiner, who returned to the crease in the 20th over, batted for the next 12 overs and shared in an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 80.
They saw the innings to its conclusion, but Fire Brigade fell 58 runs short, finishing on 8-164 after 32 overs.
Six Rochester bowlers took wickets, the pick of them being Maddox Parker with 2-20 from three overs.
· In the under-11 Community Bank Tongala Mathoura Competition Kyabram Fire Brigade scored 141 from 20 overs against Tongala in a high-scoring contest for both teams.
The match at Brose Reserve had Oscar Andison hit three boundaries in his 18 (from 17 deliveries) and then Archie Andison follow in his footsteps with 23 runs from the same amount of balls.
Levi Cleveland was not out 17 at the end of the innings and Eli Coombs struck two boundaries in his not out 20.
Lily Williams took two wickets for Tongala from her three overs and Ella Forde the one scalp.
Ella Forde and sister Tilly then continued their form with the bat, Ella hitting three boundaries in her not out 19 and Tilly one in her unbeaten 10 (both from 15 deliveries).
Earlier Nate Chantler struck three boundaries in his score of 14.
Levi Cleveland’s outstanding match continued with the ball, taking 3-13 from four overs, while Archie and Oscar Andison rounded out brilliant afternoons with two wickets apiece.
· Sister sides Kyabram Redbacks and Kyabram Redbacks Black played an entertaining match at Kyabram P-12 College, the Black combination beaten eventually by 27 runs in the T20 playing conditions.
Redbacks batted first and Cooper Ohlsen topped the batting with an unbeaten 17, supported by Liam Parsons (10) and Archer Nunn (not out 10).
The Black team then had contributions from Zavier Parsons and Cooper Fisher as it just fell shy of the required total.
Harry Roberts was the pick of the Black team’s bowlers with 2-4 from two overs, while Mayson Kent and Mitchell Melverton also took wickets.
For Redbacks seven players took wickets, including Patrick Giffin, Rhys McKiernan and Lucas Mangan.
