The young Bombers let themselves down badly with some undisciplined play that gifted their rivals four goals from 50-metre penalties
A good second term in which they kicked 4.1 to Shepparton’s two behinds had the Bombers leading by 15 points at the main break, but the visitors upped the ante after time to take control, although the Bombers fought it right out to the finish.
Kyabram had a standout in onballer Archie Watt who displayed some remarkable skills around the ground and capped it off with a bag of six goals.
Defenders Ky Kane and Shaun Doolan worked hard along with Nic Jephson, while Oliver McCormick also did some good work on a wing and in defence.
Lachy Carver, Tyler Norman and Angus Scoble also stood out at times for the Bombers.
Kyabram coach Peter Hall said he thought the game had been over umpired and many players had been perplexed by the amount of 50-metre penalties handed out to both sides.
‘‘Even the Shepparton coach said he was a bit puzzled with some of the penalties,’’ Hall said.
Hall, who even got reported from challenging an umpire’s decision from the sidelines, said overall his team had performed well over the season.
‘‘Our average losing margin was seven points which was today’s margin, so we have been competitive in most of our games and there are some talented kids coming though.’’
