Man was driving at 176km/h on a main Goulburn Valley road

The court heard Baqiri was driving at 176km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Goulburn Valley Fwy at Arcadia when police clocked him on a speed radar on May 25.

Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Chris Cole said Baqiri told police at the time he was “trying to pass another car that was annoying him”.

The court was also told Baqiri’s car was impounded for 30 days.

Representing himself in court, Baqiri said he was sorry for what he had done and spoke of how it was difficult to get to work as a farm labourer as his licence had been suspended from June 30 over the incident.

Baqiri also told the court he had completed the CoolHeads driver program.

Magistrate Simon Zebrowski fined Baqiri $500, but did not record a conviction.

He said he took into account the money Baqiri had to pay to get his vehicle out of the impoundment.

He also suspended his driver’s licence for 12 months, but backdated it to June 30.

“You’re a man of otherwise good character,” Mr Zebrowski said.

“You’ve made a really bad decision and gone vastly too quickly.”
