GVL Data figures from the match proved just how much the highly efficient Tigers feasted on their opposition, scoring at impressive 60 per cent when entering forward 50.
Twenty-nine forward 50 marks was more than double the Tigers season average as its 18.17 (125) total reflected the work of coach Steve Stroobants (seven inside 50 marks).
Jansen had 42 possessions (18 contested), his best return since a 40 possession-three goal game against Shepparton United in round four.
He had a season-high 15 clearances and 10 inside 50s, but did plenty of work without the ball in his hands, laying seven tackles as the Tigers even won the one per center count.
Two weeks ago the Campaspe News featured the equivalent Fantasy Football point count from Jansen’s round four game, which was in excess of 150 points.
On Saturday, against Benalla, his game would have also topped the 150 mark.
Jansen was not alone in racking up plenty of disposals, star AFL recruit Shaun Atley (36 possessions), winger Jordan Harper (35) and his brother, Lachlan (29), all feasting on third-from-the-bottom Benalla.
Prior to Saturday Jansen was averaging 28 touches from his 11 matches, while Atley (in six games) is averaging 32 possessions.
It is Jordan Harper, however, who is the top ranked ball winner for Rochester in the GVL competition. He hasn’t missed a game this season and will jump into the top 10 with his season-high possession count from the weekend.
Harper had a game-high 22 hand ball receives, reflected in his 32 uncontested possessions. He is the number one player in the handball receive statistic in the GVL this season.
Saturday’s match pitted Rochester against three of the top five ballwinners in the competition, with Benalla brothers William and James Martinello — along with Christopher Welsh — all featuring at the top of the disposal list.
William Martinello had 37 touches, his brother 28 and Welsh 35, but their efforts were in vain as the Tigers racked up its highest team possession count for the season.
Rochester had 384 disposals, 103 more than its opponent, which accompanied its 58 forward 50 entries (31 more than Benalla).
The Tigers averaged only 305 disposals a game before Saturday’s win, the big difference coming in the handball count where they had 60 more than their season average.
Two of the four areas in which the Tigers had a negative count were welcome news, Benalla’s 17 extra rebound 50s and two extra clangers assisting Rochester to the result.
The only other counts seventh-ranked Rochester lost for the match were the hit outs (23-44) and free kicks (12-21, in Benalla’s favour).
