Announced by State Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp on October 19, the grant is part of the Victorian Government’s Non-Government Schools Capital Fund, which was designed to fast-track funding for upgrades to Catholic and independent schools across the state.
The successful schools will be able to start their projects within the next six months, driving Victoria’s economic recovery from the pandemic and last summer’s bushfires.
St Augustine’s College principal Brayden Stone said the funds would go towards stage one of the Foundation to Year 6 construction and refurbishment project.
“The Foundation to Year 6 project will see the construction and refurbishment of learning spaces which will enable the college to respond to the continued enrolment growth,” Mr Stone said.
“The college has experienced a 62 per cent increase in student numbers over a 10-year period, which is a positive reflection of the demand for Catholic education in the region.
“Stage one will also see the construction and refurbishment of the Year 3-4 learning facilities. This development is underpinned by our learning and teaching framework that reflects contemporary understandings of education and student-centred learning.
“Flexible learning spaces will be designed so that students have a rich variety of point-of-need learning experiences that are facilitated by outstanding teachers and support staff.
“St Augustine’s College would like to sincerely thank the state government, (Education Minister) Mr (James) Merlino and Mr Gepp and Catholic Education Sandhurst for their continued support and enabling us and the entire Kyabram community to flourish into the future.”
Mr Gepp said the Non-Government Schools Capital Fund was part of the government’s election commitment to establish a $402 million fund in partnership with the non-government school sector to upgrade and build new non-government schools across Victoria.
“These local projects will help give students and staff the best possible facilities to learn and thrive,” he said.
“This investment is vital to Victoria’s economic recovery and creating jobs in the education state.”
