After a few hurdles, the Seymour Goulburn Lions Club has commemorated a special moment of Lions history in Australia.

To celebrate 75 years of Lions in Australia, a garden and plaque were unveiled near the roundabout on Station St, Seymour, on Thursday, November 21.
Former Seymour Goulburn Lions Club president Leonie Willis got the project off the ground and worked with Mitchell Shire Council to make it happen.
“In about 2018, Lions International asked local clubs around Australia to construct gardens to commemorate the 75 years,” Ms Willis said.
“I spoke to the council to get the ball rolling, but then we got hit with COVID and then the floods. So it’s been a lot of hard work.”

Lions clubs throughout Australia were encouraged to create gardens or other community-based programs to commemorate the anniversary of the first Lions Club that was formed in Lismore, NSW, in September 1947.
Pro Turf Seymour laid the groundwork for the garden and Australia Post provided a grant to cover the cost of the plants.
The unveiling was done by Seymour Goulburn Lions Club vice-president David Stute and other Lions members and people involved in working on the project were also there to celebrate the long-overdue occasion.
