The college secured $5.5 million to modernise and improve classroom facilities.
State Member for Euroa Steph Ryan said the school deserved an ‘A’ for its effort to successfully lobby the government for the funding.
She said the money was long overdue.
“I am delighted that the community’s advocacy for funding to improve Rushworth P-12 College has finally paid dividends and we can tick it off the priority list,” Ms Ryan said.
“After years of being overlooked by the Andrews Labor Government for capital works funding, Rushworth P-12 College will soon be able to work in new classrooms and with better school amenities.
“This upgrade cannot come soon enough for the students and college staff who have, for years, tolerated learning in classrooms from the 1960s.
“Students have been left with no option but to use an amenities block that’s over 60 years old, and there are only two staff toilets — one female toilet for 20 teachers and one male toilet for 13 teachers.
“I have been working closely with principal Kerryn Quirk and members of the local community to get Rushworth P-12 to the top of the government’s priority list.
“This is a fantastic outcome not only for the college, but for the Rushworth community, who have been tirelessly campaigning to ensure local kids are reaching their full potential in a comfortable and sustainable environment.”
Rushworth and District Community Bank chair Christine Borger said she was elated by the announcement, as it would position the school to encourage future enrolments as well as making life easier for students and teachers.
“We were absolutely thrilled when we received the news,” Ms Borger said.
“This funding is going to make the world of difference to the lives of so many students — present and future — and we are grateful for Steph’s efforts in bringing this project to the government’s attention.
“The new facilities will enhance the already excellent education the school provides and will play a pivotal role in the future of the community of Rushworth.”
