Greater Shepparton residents are invited to participate in an event to help clean up the region’s rivers on Saturday, April 22.
Residents can bring their boat, canoe or kayak, or borrow one from the Shepparton Canoe Club, and join Charlie the Pollution Pirate and clean up the water. For those who would prefer to stay on land, all equipment needed will be provided.
RiverConnect project officer Ali White said the event came to be after attendees at the recent Canoeing along the River event were struck by the amount of rubbish they saw along the river during the event.
“The floods washed so much rubbish into our beautiful river systems and there is really only one way to get it out,” she said.
“It takes many hands and we’re really excited to have passionate community members taking part in the day supporting this event.”
A barbecue will be provided as well as a prize award for the best Pollution Pirate costume.
The event will take place from 9am to 1pm, on Saturday, April 22 at Daintons Bridge, and registrations can be made via https://events.humanitix.com/river-rubbish-clean-up
