A planning permit for the development of a new childcare centre in the heart of Kyabram is being considered by the Campaspe Shire Council.
The land proposed in the publicly-listed application is 391 Allan St, Kyabram, just off the corner of Corrigan Ave and south of the showgrounds.
The planning report proposes the childcare centre would accommodate for 73 children and operate from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
According to the planning report: “The childcare centre will be divided into five education rooms which open to an outdoor play area.”
“The childcare centre accommodates associated facilities including sleeping areas and cot room, washrooms, kitchen, reception, waiting/interaction area, bathrooms, staff rooms, laundry and storage area as depicted in the design drawings.”
The application also proposes the childcare centre would provide 16 parking spaces in front of the centre within the property made accessible from Allan St.
The planning permit requires five permits to be successful for the development of the childcare centre to progress which includes: use of the land for a childcare centre; to construct a building or construct or carry out works; to construct a building subject to inundation overlay, to provide “some or all” car parking spaces; to create or alter access to a road in a transportation zone.
A residential property currently occupies the land.
The planning report proposes the demolition of the property if the planning permit is successful.
Campaspe Shire sustainability director Michael Sharp said that the application is still “being considered“ and no decision has been made.
“The application is currently on advertising, which allows an opportunity for the public to review documentation and provide written submissions to council,” Mr Sharp said.
“Following completion of the advertising period, any submissions will be reviewed, and next steps of the process carried out.”
The proposed childcare centre would join six other centres including Aussie Kindies, Shine Bright P-12 Kindergarten, Shine Bright Municipal Kindergarten, Shine Bright Unwin St Kindergarten, Kyabram Community and Learning Centre and The Loop School-Aged Care.
