Kyabram Country Petstock will be raising money for the Pets of the Homeless charity – an organisation that assists those experiencing homelessness and disadvantage stay close to and take care of their furry friends.
The Petstock foundation is running a month-long fundraiser to raise a collective $600,000 for local charities across Australia through their Hometown Heroes campaign.
Kyabram branch manager Mel Borella said that the store chose this charity out of the seven on offer through the campaign because she understands the connection between humans and pets.
“There’s a lot of homeless people … and a lot of pets in need … this charity makes sure that their companions are looked after while they’re in tough times,” she said.
The store will be asking customers buying products for their pets to round up their purchases and donate an amount to support other disadvantaged pets.
Funds raised for Pets of the Homeless will directly benefit those experiencing homelessness by providing food, veterinary care and safe shelter to people and their furry friends.
Head of Petstock Foundation, Jessica Curtis, said that with pets being so important to the wellbeing of many people, and by highlighting local charities through the fundraiser, it strengthens those charities' ability to support “those experiencing disadvantage”.
Pets of the Homeless founder and chief executive highlighted that a lot of their work is only made possible by donations.
“Contributions make a huge difference to those experiencing financial hardship, and we are grateful to the Petstock Foundation for supporting small community charities like ours."
The Hometown Heroes campaign will run from August 27 to September 30 and donations can be made online or in-store.
