More than 20,000 people flowed through the gates each day, with some ticket holders from New Zealand and America. A total of 7991 utes rolled in to the Ute Paddock (record stands at 9736) and the Blue Singlet Count came in at 4298 attendees (record stands at 4367). Photo by Shotz by David Jackson Past players, partners and supporters from the Deniliquin District Cricket Association gathered in Deniliquin for a long-awaited special reunion. The celebrations incorporated meet and greets, local cricket in the opening round of the Murray Valley Cricket Association, the soft opening of the new Deniliquin Rhinos and Deniliquin Netball Association clubrooms and a sportsmans night featuring Aussie cricketers. Local horse racing might have been called off, but the spring racing spirit was alive and well in Deniliquin for its Deniliquin Gold Cup race meet. Heavy rain on the Thursday prior made the track unsafe for racing, leading to a decision to host a ‘phantom’ race meet. All the trackside entertainment went ahead as planned, and were well supported. The deputy mayor role went to Kellie Crossley, the only other candidate to gain more votes than Cr Hall at the polls in September. Other members of the new-look council are Ken Bates, Shirlee Burge, Craig Druitt, Linda Fawns, Leanne Mulham, Shannon Sampson and Frank Schofield. Ken Seignior, Kenneth Grimison, Ray Brooks and Terry Grimison were all inducted into the Deniliquin & District Transport Wall of Fame as part of a huge weekend of industry celebrations which also included the Deniliquin Truck Show & Industry Expo. Photo by Ryan Heffer Daniel Burn competed at the NSW PSSA Boys Primary Cricket Championship, where he represented Polding against the best young cricketers from around the state. He is believed to be the first St Michael’s Primary School student to make it to that level of competition.
