Mitch Bright will spend the next 12 months in the role of acting assistant principal.
Despite the past challenges, there’s a clear path to future success for Mr Koutroubas and the school.
“I see it as a fantastic opportunity to take the next steps after everything thrown at this school community over the past 15 months,” Mr Koutroubas said.
“There are plenty of opportunities for the students to get their education in either TAFE apprenticeship or university and serve the local community.
“It’s been a positive start and it’s been great to see the students attending class and doing well in the classes while meeting all the staff.
“I look forward to meeting the community members over the coming days and weeks as I look to guide the school community in 2024.”
Mr Koubroutas has had four years of experience at other secondary colleges where he worked in a senior role.
“I’ve come from Euroa Secondary College, where I spent four years as an assistant principal. I was also the acting principal. Before that, I was part of McGuire College in Greater Shepparton,” Mr Koubroutas said.
Mr Bright continues his long association with the school, which began when he attended as a student.
He was born in Rochester and educated at the primary school before going to the college.
“I’m grateful to have the chance to be the acting assistant principal of Rochester Secondary College. It’s wonderful to be at the school and serving the community,” Mr Bright said.
“It’s good to see some of my friends’ children starting to come through the school.
“I would like to see the students engage in a pathway they’re passionate about, whether a university degree or a trade. I want to see them achieve all they can while being happy while they do it.”
Mr Bright is grateful to be part of a school that allows the teachers to guide students to be their best.
“It’s an excellent opportunity for the both of us. I think the school environment is where we can connect and build relationships with the kids,” Mr Bright said.
The newly-appointed principal expressed a similar sentiment.
“I’m proud to be part of Rochester Secondary College. It’s a fantastic opportunity where the community has so many dedicated teachers that assist the students with learning,” Mr Koubroutas said.
