Mosaic had attempted several changes, including discontinuing five of its brands in September to focus on Millers, Noni B, Rivers, Katies and an online marketplace.
While most commercial partners backed the changes, some stakeholders opposed the plan, and regulatory challenges blocked a viable outcome.
“Voluntary administration has now become the necessary step to restructure the group,” the company said.
It will continue trading with a focus on the key Christmas and holiday period.
A Millers employee, who wished to remain anonymous, shared her reaction to the announcement.
“We got an email last night,” she said.
“Employees don’t get told anything.
“We were told that it was ‘business as usual until further notice’.
“The vibe was positive, they (Mosaic Group) are hoping to get a buyer for Millers.
“We can’t sell gift cards.
“And all gift cards must be used before November 11.
“We are hoping we can find a buyer for Millers.
“I feel sad for the older customers.
“They’ll come for shopping but they’re here for a chat, really.”
