Meet the candidates night a big success

Greater Shepparton City Council candidates have come together for a panel discussion at Melbourne University’s Department of Rural Health.

The event, organised by the Door Bells-Migrant Women’s Network and in partnership with Melbourne University and La Trobe University, saw 19 out of 27 candidates attended, representing six out of nine wards.

Each candidate was given 90 seconds to introduce themselves, their ward and their top three priority issues, and declare any political affiliations or interest group ties.

Audience members were able to ask the panel of potential councillors questions, with topics discussed including affordable housing, positions on national and international issues, and plans for engaging with multicultural communities.

The Door Bells-Migrant Women’s Network said the night was a big success, stating that they were incredibly proud to see how this event provided their members, particularly women from migrant communities, the opportunity to develop and showcase their leadership skills at the event.
