At the May meeting of Greater Shepparton City Council, the final plan, which replaces the original master plan created in 2008, was endorsed unanimously.
Key changes include updating references to the current Council Plan and a shift from natural gas to more sustainable energy use.
Upgrade of the Council Depot has been removed due to a shift in depot locations and a priority project to build new hard courts has been altered to low priority. It will also now investigate redevelopment of existing courts including lighting upgrades, with future consideration for four new courts including two multi-purpose courts.
A detailed background report including a Landscape Master Plan summarises 18 development priorities across the site.
The highest priorities include new changerooms for football and netball use on the northern side of the main oval, a new multi-purpose building incorporating toilets, change and kiosk facilities to service the multi-purpose fields and John Gray Oval and additional and reconfigured spaces to align with long-term patterns of use.
Improvements to raw water access are also a priority.
Cr Shane Sali said the master plan opened the door to a lot of projects to benefit users.
“It is only 4km from the Shepparton CBD, so connectivity is good and the expansion of this space is definitely warranted,” he said.
“Like all master plans it now offers direction for some time ahead of us and great stability for the priorities of those user groups.”
Cr Greg James said the draft plan received 17 submissions.
“That just highlights the passion of the community for their sporting complex,” he said.
