Michael Jeanes, 44, from Kyabram, pleaded guilty in Echuca Magistrates’ Court to four counts of drug driving.
Prosecutor Constable Matthew Hendry told the court Jeanes tested positive to methamphetamines when drug tested after police pulled him over in Allan St, Kyabram, on May 31 last year.
He told police at the time he “had some ice yesterday” and was “going to pick up some lunch” when he was stopped, Constable Hendry said.
On November 24 last year police again picked up Jeanes – this time in Graham Rd, Tongala – drug driving with methamphetamines in his oral fluid.
That time his reason for driving was that he was “going shopping in Echuca”, Constable Hendry said.
On February 3, Jeanes again tested positive to methamphetamines when he was drug tested after being pulled over in Bradley St, Kyabram.
The court heard he told police at the time that he was going to work in Tongala.
The fourth time he was caught drug driving was in Bishop St, Kyabram on April 26 where he again tested positive to methamphetamines.
He told police at the time he had used ice two days earlier, Constable Hendry said.
Jeanes’ solicitor Greg Johnston told the court his client has “dabbled” in drug use previously, but it “took a hold of him” when his relationship broke up last year.
He told the court there was “nothing untoward” about Jeanes’ driving.
Magistrate Megan Aumair said Jeanes’ offending was “deeply concerning”.
“You can’t dabble in this drug recreationally,” she said.
Ms Aumair sentenced Jeanes to a 12-month community corrections order, which includes conditions of treatment and rehabilitation for drug abuse, as well as a mental health assessment.
His driver’s licence was also cancelled and he was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
