A shop window competition offering an opportunity to support NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week and brighten up the street front has been launched by the two organisations.
Last year the competition was won by H&G Real Estate.
There are several national events to coincide with the Kyabram event, including the National NAIDOC Awards and a poster competition.
NAIDOC Week has its roots in the 1937 Day of Mourning and has been a week-long event since 1975.
Every year the event has a theme and this year it is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!
A flag raising ceremony, smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country will be held on the front lawn of Kyabram District Health Service, along with morning tea, to launch the week on Tuesday, July 5 at 10am.
There will be three prizes on offer for the window competition, a $100 Kyabram First voucher for the winner, with $50 and $25 vouchers for runner-up and third.
Both the KDHS and aboriginal network are encouraging owners to register their businesses and create their display by July 3.
Judging will be conducted by community members and businesses will be advised of the time of judging.
Winners will be announced on our KDHS Facebook Page, along with a photo of the entries.
