Gary Heavin was the founder of Curves, a women’s fitness organisation that will this year celebrate 30 years of offering health services to women around the world.
Today (September 7), the Kyabram Curves gym will mark its own anniversary when it celebrates its 16th birthday — all but two of those years under the guidance of fitness guru Michelle Fitzgerald.
Ms Fitzgerald is in the midst of re-branding the Allan St gymnasium and in the next 12 months will move into the next phase of the business — as 4EverFit.
The Kyabram gymnasium will continue to offer the spin, step, zumba and pilates classes that have formed the basis of its recent success.
Assisting Ms Fitzgerald in guiding the gym into the next chapter of its history will be two new staff members, Stephanie Kuiper and Holly Lloyd.
“They have just started in the last month at the club as health, fitness and management trainees.
“They have a lot on their plate with study, working in the gym and their own studies outside of the traineeship, but they are handling it very well,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
She said stepping away from Curves and operating as 4EverFit would be a gradual process over the next 10 months.
“We will gradually change things over, we are very excited,” she said.
“It has been a great partnership with Curves, but it is time to do our own thing.”
Ms Fitzgerald will maintain the motto of empowering women for life, not just fitness.
She said the gym had helped its members to grow by supporting community for women.
The community-minded gym has regularly been the centre of fund raising activity and through its variety of low to high intensity workouts has changed the lives of hundreds of members.
The gym continues to offer services for everyone from 12 year olds to seniors at a beginner, intermediate and advanced level.
