Last week, state Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes announced three grants to be given out to Kyabram-based organisations, a sum totalling $46,000.
Kyabram P-12 College secured a $30,000 Active Schools grant directed at upgrading sporting facilities to encourage students to be more active.
This includes up-skilling PE teachers, purchasing sports equipment, building outdoor learning spaces, making upgrades to the playground, installing sensory play areas and implementing sporting programs.
Ms Symes said sports and an active lifestyle made small communities such as Kyabram thrive, and boosting their sporting capital ensured young people had access to nurture a love for sport and provided healthy ways to improve wellbeing.
Rochester Primary School also received $30,000 to upgrade its sporting facilities.
Kyabram Community and Learning Centre received $6000 for its kindergarten to take kids outdoors and learn in nature.
KCLC was one of 14 kindergartens across the region to receive a grant to encourage play in parks, bushland and beaches and foster curiosity in outdoor settings.
After a successful year with the 2024 Kyabram Show, the Kyabram Agricultural Society received a $10,000 Agricultural and Pastoral Society grant for maintenance works at the showgrounds.
The group was one of 11 local show organisers to receive funds to improve facilities and amenities to boost rural and regional economies and especially that of the agricultural sector.
Kyabram AH&P Society president Graeme Joiner said the funds would contribute to upgrading the power network at the showgrounds and bring the facilities up to a modern standard.
“We’re always grateful and it’s always pleasing to be able to receive a grant to help us upgrade our facilities,” Mr Joiner said.
“These Agricultural and Pastoral Society grants will provide valuable support and help ensure the community can continue to enjoy their local show for many years to come,” Ms Symes said.
The upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of June.
