While residents on Allan St, Kyabram, were most likely woken up from their public holiday sleep in a little earlier than they’d wished, it was all for a good cause.

From 9am Friday, the sirens from the Kyabram Fire Brigade trucks were blaring with volunteers walking alongside collecting crucial funds for the annual Good Friday Appeal.
And boy, did they rake in some donations.
This year’s Good Friday Appeal, run by the Kyabram Fire Brigade, raised an impressive $25,403, contributing to a grand total of $37,066 for the entire Kyabram community to be donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Mr Crompton, who led the team of volunteers, said there wasn’t much push back from early risers woken from the sirens; rather the opposite.
“They’re all used to it and used to the sirens at this point, they were all waiting outside ready … we were really well supported,” he said.
The volunteers conducted two rounds of siren calls before attending the Goulburn Valley League match between Kyabram and Benalla, where they circled the ground to collect additional donations.

Mr Crompton was happy with Kyabram's significant contribution to the impressive state-wide total of $23.8 million.
“It gives us a buzz to be a part of that total record, we can’t thank the community enough,” he said.
The team had a goal of $25,000 which Mr Crompton said he was glad to have reached.
“We had a fantastic day on Friday and we were ecstatic to be able to beat our goal, which was $25,000,” he said.
The Merrigum Fire Brigade members were also out and about fundraising for the appeal with the aim of donating it to Kyabram’s total, they collected $2001.25.
