Numurkah had reached 2-56 in reply late on Saturday evening to be in the box seat going into the final day on Saturday.
Led by number nine batter Charlie McLay and without its premier batter Kyle Mueller Kyabram still posted a respectable 171 on the first day of the clash at Numurkah.
Understandably the home side sent Kyabram in to bat after winning the toss due to the uncertainty of Mueller making his way back on the day from the Australian Country Cricket Championships in South Australia.
Mueller didn’t make it, but will play on the second day this Saturday, when Numurkah attempts to gain a first innings win and end the reigning premier’s eight-game winning streak.
Kyabram had several contributors with the bat, led by Charlie McLay at number nine and Cade Mueller at third drop.
McLay finished with a top score of 47 off 46 balls with three sixes and three fours, while Mueller made 27 off 44 deliveries with five fours.
Opener Paul Parsons with 18 and first drop Alec Young and Lukas Hanslow, both with 19, also did their bit to boost the Kyabram score.
Rathika Rajakumara was unbeaten on 26 as Numurkah reached 2-56 off 29 overs.
· Kyabram’s B-grade side has a massive run chase on its hands on Saturday to beat Numurkah.
Numurkah made an imposing 9-296 on Saturday with Tom Holman the most successful Kyabram bowler with 3-53 off 19 overs.
Holman was well supported by Nic Chambers and Mason McDonald who both claimed two wickets.
