The meeting was designed to ask the community members if they wanted to take up the opportunity to start a community house to support the locals achieve their goals and reduce social isolation.
What resulted was the community responding with a resounding yes and work then began to develop KCLC into a connected, engaged, collaborative organisation that is focused on — and works to support — the Kyabram district.
KCLC chief executive Officer Jen Savage said the organisation had grown and evolved through the years.
“The changes in direction is testament to the pledge that KCLC made to deliver what the community needs. This, of course, has changed over time and KCLC has held the community at heart throughout every decision made in its journey,” she said.
KCLC is celebrating 40 years of advocating for and working hand in hand with our region on October 17 at 6pm at KCLC (21-25 Lake Rd, Kyabram).
“We would love to see you all attend our AGM to learn about all the work undertaken in the past 12 months as well as help us celebrate the past 40 years,” Ms Savage said.
“In addition to our AGM, we will also share many stories about KCLC, provide community with a chance to walk through the centre and share in supper.
“As part of our celebrations, we are seeking memories, stories and lived experience of our community connections with KCLC.”
People wanting to share their story should contact Jen Savage on 5852 0000 or email ceo@kclc.com.au
Stories can be collected in writing, video, photos or artwork.
Ms Savage said KCLC had successfully evolved to the needs of the community. There was now a lot of variation in what was offered to the community.
A picnic in the community garden and traffic school, next door to the building, will be held on the land which was left to the then council for community use.
She said there was still work being done to finalise event details, but in the meantime people could celebrate the history by looking in the Kyabram Town Hall walkway historical society window during the month of October.
