Community groups and organisations set up stalls alongside workshops, activities and an ice-cream truck out the front of Goranwarrabul House in Seymour.
The day is a chance to celebrate cultural diversity and respect, and coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Event attendee Ross O'Donovan said the celebration was a chance to get to know other people.
Ross and his partner, Irene, were previously living in Cairns with their children and grandchildren.
“If you’re new in town like we were five years ago, this was the place where we could meet other Indigenous people and their partners and friends, and start to build those community connections,” Mr O’Donovan said.
“Particularly for Irene and the kids, Goranwarrabul House is the spot to meet other people.
“The footy club took our boys in and therefore the community took them in quickly. The girls have been at St Mary’s for five years now, this is their home.”
Goranwarrabul House runs a number of events and services, including a women’s circle and food bank, which Mr O’Donovan and his family like to visit.
“The point of the food bank isn’t to just come and pick up some food, it’s to spend some time. It is a catalyst for connection.
“Today is a larger version of that, a chance to connect a bit more.”
