The nations of Australia and New Zealand will stop at dawn, in every city, every small town and every community across the world where Australians and New Zealanders may gather, to pay their respects.
It would be fair to say there there would not be many Australian or New Zealand households that a grandfather, father, mother, brother, sister, uncle or aunt had not served or made the supreme sacrifice for the protection of our great nations.
We must never forget the freedom we enjoy today has been bought for us — Lest We Forget.
We should also acknowledge the men and women who, to this day, serve and protect us from harm’s way — sometimes with their lives.
Our police, firefighters, ambulance officers, State Emergency Service volunteers, doctors and nurses who lay it all on the line to protect our communities, state and country.
RSL Girgarre is proud of the fact it has within its membership all of these men and women.
We have people who have given their lives, those that have served in battle, the peacekeepers and the first responders that protect the community in times of need.
There are also those that uphold and honour their family that have served.
After a small service and flag raising ceremony we will be inviting people back to a gunfire breakfast with tea or coffee at no charge. Please note, children are welcome.
Later in the day we will be conducting a golf/bowls day at Valley View Golf and Bowls Club. Some great prizes can be won.
We at RSL Girgarre are grateful for the support the community has given us for this day. Sponsorship of this event has been outstanding and the day would not be possible without that help. Thank you.
Money raised from this event helps us each year to, (one) provide tributes to fallen members and support their families; (two) send children on bus trips (placed like the Science Works); (three) supprot all things in the comunity (such as the development group); (four) provide support to the Moosic Muster with meals and logistics; (five) sponsor children (not necessarily an RSL member’s child); (six) help members move house, with hospital costs and other assistance.
In all we believe we are good citizens, but none of this would be possible without your support. We humbly thank you.
We look forward to seeing you at 5.45am at the golf and bowls day on Anzac Day (April 25).
— William Perry, secretary, Girgarre RSL
