Sixty-two commemorative plaques will be installed in significant historical sites across Shepparton as part of Greater Shepparton City Council’s Heritage Plaques Pilot Program.

Mayor Shane Sali unveiled the Former Foresters’ Hall plaque on Thursday, May 9, alongside the Shepparton Heritage Centre committee in a formal celebration of the hall’s extensive history as Shepparton’s oldest surviving and most versatile building.

“The Heritage Advisory Committee have put in a mountain of work, dating back to 2020, to get this program underway. The history of these assets is a really important part of our region and we are proud to be able to promote the buildings and structures of cultural significance within Greater Shepparton,” he said.

“I look forward to the 61 other plaques being installed throughout the region. The significant research and effort undertaken by the Heritage Advisory Committee is something to be proud of.”

Byrneside, Dookie, Katandra West, Merrigum, Mooroopna, Mooroopna North, Murchison, Murchison East, Shepparton, Tallygaroopna, Tatura, Toolamba and Undera will all have plaques installed at respective historical sites as part of the program.
