Victorians aged over six months of age are able to get vaccinated for free at GP clinics and pharmacies.
Erica Maddison from Terry White Chemist in Kyabram said it was a wonderful initiative by the Victorian Government.
“I think it will definitely encourage people to get the shot, who have held off otherwise, and it’s a shame they didn’t bring it in earlier,” she said.
Ms Maddison said it was very important to get the flu vaccine as winter starts.
“We are already seeing crazy numbers presenting to hospitals, between that and COVID it very important.
“If you don’t want to protect yourself, at least protect your family by getting it done so you don’t pass it on.
“If you’ve ever had the flu you know you don’t want to get the flu.”
Influenza cases have increased by 30 per cent in the past week, according to the ABC, from 10,000 to 15,000 infections — which is more than the combined flu case numbers in the previous two years.
Terry White Chemist in Kyabram accepts walk-in vaccination requests or make a booking for Wednesdays or Thursdays.
