Firefighters responded to an incident in central Kyabram on Thursday, August 1.
An alarm went off on the outside of a building on the corner of Allan St and Union St about 2.40pm.
A Kyabram Fire Brigade truck arrived 10 minutes later.
No smoke appeared to be coming out of the building, but the alarm continued to sound.
Kyabram CFA captain Tom Druggan said when firefighters arrived at the scene they found no fire.
Mr Druggan said they found a faulty fire detector in the second level bathroom.
East-bound traffic on Allan St was briefly interrupted due to the fire truck on the road, and a firefighter directed oncoming cars.
The owners of the building are investigating the incident.
